Montezuma Bowl

We have started making our first moves in Montezuma Bowl. Today our mid-mountain base is 29". In our six seasons of having Montezuma Bowl open, we have found that it typically opens when the base is in the 40ish" range, sometimes less, sometimes more. Our permanent snowfences back there have caught a fair bit of snow. The Ski Patrol has begun working and deploying explosives in the steep stuff off Zuma Cornice. This week we will deploy our significant portable snowfence farms. The snowcats have taken their first baby steps at the top of Columbine. Of course we like to get it open as soon as possible, especially before the holidays. In our six years it has opened twice in December, once in January, and three times in Feburary. It takes a lot of work to get that area open. We have begun the process.
