Winter Is Back

Winter has roared back. 4:30 Friday afternoon and it just started snowing heavily. The National Weather Service says 4-8 inches this afternoon and tonight. This winter's story keeps on going. More snow and another great weekend of skiing and riding. The forecast for Denver is cold, rain, and snow. Yuck. You might as well head to The Basin and turn a gray day into a spectacular ski day.

Sun and East Wall

If it isn't going to be snowing it might as well be blue skies and beautiful. After 18" new the last 3 days, the ski patrol opened the East Wall today. The North Pole and Willie's Staircases were in exceptional form. They opened Willie's to Arizona Rock. Looks like tomorrow they will punch that staircase up to the Snorkle Door. I think today's participants were pleased with the "product." The next storm should be here tomorrow. Enjoy Patio's photos.

105 Inch Base

9" new on a 105" Base. Local's Day was happening including a Rail Jam in the Treeline Terrain Park. We had a couple of bands playing in the base area. Lots of people were enjoying The Beach. And the skiing was pretty good also. With all the snow, the East Wall has been closed for a couple of days. Sunny skies are expected tomorrow. Look for a big Ski Patrol presence on the Wall in the morning. If all goes well, we will get her open.

It's That Good

It really is that good. This morning included faceshots on The Spine, Standard, Slalom Slope, and Max. Pretty nice. The weather has gone from a blizzard first thing to some patches of sun and now some mixed clouds and showers. We are expecting more snow this afternoon and tonight. Our season is a long way from being over. Enjoy today's photos. And.... skiing the 100 inch base is pretty nice.

100 Inch Base

So that is what a 100 inch smile looks like. For the first time since 2003, we cracked the 100 inch base. Still snowing heavily with a winter storm warning in effect. Ryan, our avalanche forecaster has been to the Summit already. Lots of snow up there. We do have a serious problem though. The Snow-cat and Snow-plow drivers have run out of places to put snow. What are we going to do? Could we have too much snow? NO WAY. This is beautiful. You have to get here this morning. No kidding around. Change the schedule and get here.
