Molly Hogan Motor Room

The Molly Hogan Motor Room arrived today. It weighs somewhere in the 35-40,000 pound range. After quite bit of prep time, the very large crane set the structure in place in just a few minutes.

Pouring Concrete - Bottom of Pali

Today the Leither Poma team successfully poured the concrete for the bottom terminal of the new Pallavicini Lift. That is a lot of concrete. The bottom will have an LP Alpha terminal very similar to the bottom of Lenawee, top of Beavers and top of Zuma Lifts. Two steel towers will support the drive station or motor room. Each of those towers has a very, very large concrete foundation most of which is buried. The biggest part of any lift, in both size and weight, is buried and most people never see it.

A Good Weekend

I think we made the best of a very weird COVID-19 style 4th of July weekend. People enjoyed riding the chairlift, going for a hike, riding the Lenawee Trail, eating lunch on the deck, shopping for groovy A-Basin goods, playing some disc golf and just generally having fun in mountains. We will do this Thursday thru Sunday every week into September.

Our new book, ARAPAHOE BASIN - A Colorado Legend Since 1946, is now available online and at Arapahoe Sports. It is loaded with great photos and stories from the ski area's founding all the way to today. Drawing on information from Larry Jump's archives, ski area records, personal interviews and magazine and newspaper articles, author Cathleen Norman has created a beautiful book diving deep into Arapahoe Basin history.  I think members of the Arapahoe Basin clan will enjoy this read.

Open For Summer

We are open for Summer four days a weeks, Thursday thru Sunday. Come up for a chairlift ride on Black Mountain Express. Grab lunch at the 6th Alley or (Saturdays and Sundays only) BBQ at Black Mountain Lodge. Arapahoe Sports is open with all their groovy goods. And, once the commissioning process is complete, give the Aerial Adventure Park a try.

The Disc Golf Course and our trails are open seven days a week.

COVID-19 has created some crazy weird times. Summer at The Basin is a great place to get away, keep your distance from others and soak in these awesome mountains.
