Yoga on the Mountain
Yoga on the Mountain is Thursday, July 14, starting at 9:00 a.m. with a guided hike to Black Mountain Lodge and a one-hour yoga session with Alison Simson on the deck at mid-mountain. It's all followed by a spa luncheon at the Black Mountain Lodge specially prepared by Chef Rybak and his crew. It's half-full already so now is a good time to book your spot in this experience.

Summer Time
Hard to believe we were open three days ago. It was a great ski season with an especially strong spring, but summer is happening very quickly. We are still quite busy putting the winter stuff away. Construction (more like destruction) has begun on the A-Frame and Base Area remodel. We have a busy summer of weddings planned with the first one being June 25. Summer in "The 6th Alley" kicks off July 1. The Bar and Grill will be open Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. I anticipate the Argentine North Fork Trail to be open within a couple of weeks. Our Summer Event Schedule includes Yoga on the Mountain, Summit Challenge Trail Run, BML BBQ and Concert and the Clam and Lobster Boil. If you like skiing at The Basin in Winter you will love hanging out here in the Summer.

I Think She Sang
We enjoyed a beautiful closing day with fun summer skiing, High Five playing on the BML deck and lots of delicious BBQ.
I saw some things today I have never seen before. There was the snowboarder playing his saxophone while riding. There was the skiing fiddle player that skimmed across Lake Reveal while playing his fiddle. Not to be outdone, another skier cruised across the water while playing bagpipes. He didn't quite make it (and got a little wet). Once the bagpiper crawled to shore, he joined the fiddler for a duet on the North Shore. With just the right amount of inappropriateness, everyone had a great time.
I think our timing was good. We made it through today, but the snow is melting fast. Another weekend is completely out of the question. There just won't be much snow left by Saturday. Thanks to the entire A-Basin community for a great finish to the season, and even more important, thanks for another spectacular season.

June 10 Skiing
I think you can expect a very nice day of skiing this June 10. It is going to be warm. Lake Reveal is visible. The snow is good. I am sure spirits will be high. Enjoy this view of Dercum's Gulch taken yesterday afternoon.

A-Basin Greeters
This time of year we frequently see the bighorn sheep hanging out along Highway 6 both above and below the ski area. I saw these guys yesterday morning. The little ones are so cute. These animals are different from the mountain goats we see hanging out on The Summit and The East Wall. The mountain goats are almost pure white with black horns. As you come skiing this weekend, maybe you will be lucky enough to be greeted by the bighorn sheep and the mountain goats.

Weekend Update
Things are starting to shape up for the "Re-Opening" on Friday. This morning we had four snowcats out on the hill putting the place back together. Staying open in June requires a lot of high quality work by the cat drivers. I anticipate that most of the terrain that is open will have groomed surfaces. While not completely finalized I think you can look forward to skiing High Noon, Upper Sundance, Dercum's Gulch, Humbug, Lenawee Face and Powerline. Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Mountain Chairlifts will be open from 8:30 - 2:30. The Terrain Park Crew is putting together several rail features. The forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is calling for a few clouds and warm temps. This is a great weekend to finish off the ski season with a bang.
Looks like you will have a chance to get wet.

Base Area / Partial A-Frame Remodel
Several folks have inquired about what is going on at the North end of the A-Frame. We have several remodeling projects in plan for the base area. We are going to remodel, re-grade and re-pave the base area around the A-Frame and the Guest Services building. We will have better walkways, better ramps, more outdoor seating and better plaza/music viewing for our guests. We are also remodeling and expanding Arapahoe Sports, the store on the North End of the A-Frame. Lastly we are remodeling the two entry doors on the West side of the A-Frame. Enjoy the two elevations of the Arapahoe Sports remodel.
For several years we have been working on a comprehensive plan to make the entire base area look better and function better and generally be a much better place to hang out, eat, enjoy good times with friends and soak in The Basin.

BML Summer Deck Scene
Today is perfect for the Black Mountain Lodge (almost) Summer deck scene. The deck BBQ is open. The sky is blue and the temperature is warm. People are savoring the weather and the snow conditions. The East Wall view is extra dramatic. The mountain goats are now daily regulars on Little Lenawee Peak. "Whitewater Ramble" is moments away from starting to play in the Base Area Plaza. Just another great day.
.........And we have another weekend to go.
