Long Chute Hike

I found superb skiing in Long Chute and Max today. The five minute walk along the snow fence to the top of Long Chute is well worth the effort. We completed several laps. With the south facing slopes and sunny skies, the snow was extra soft. It wasn't slushy, just soft, beautiful, carvy snow. Montezuma Bowl was a good place to hang out this afternoon.

A Little Bit Of Sun and Snow

It has been snowing off and on all day. Occasionally the sun has popped out. We have had 2-3 inches of snow since report time this morning. The snow surface is excellent. I found very good skiing in Thick and Thin, Digger, MGD, Lenawee Parks and, of course, the Lower Mountain. I know we all want the big dump. Despite that, the skiing is getting better inch by inch.

A Little Montezuma Bowl Action

Montezuma Bowl is looking pretty good. It opened for a bit Saturday afternoon. We should see more and more skiing and riding in the coming days. Good fun.

6" New - Powder Day

Wow, what a great surprise this morning.  6" new and the forecast for the next week is looking very promising.  The skiing this morning was phenomenal. I hope you were able to enjoy it.

Powder Day?

I think you might be able to call today a powder day. We had an inch of new at report time and a couple more fell just after dawn. After a couple of cold, windy days, today was a treat. I found a lot of fun turns. Today's wind was a good wind. Check out the sunset that the Zuma Cam caught this afternoon.

Clouds On The Divide

I always enjoy watching the weather move in and around The Basin. Last Saturday a storm moved across the southern edge of the state and then up along the Front Range. It was snowing east of the Continental Divide and down in Denver. The clouds billowed right to crest-line and even spilled over a little bit onto to our side. There were some very cool images of clouds, snow, blue sky and sun. It was a very dynamic setting with the sky constantly changing.

Working Montezuma Bowl

The team is working in Montezuma Bowl. Trevor has been all over the winch cat getting Larkspur and Columbine ready. He has already been to the bottom of the lift with the cat. The Snow Safety Team has been doing loads of avalanche work in MGD and West Zuma. Our current base is 33". We usually open Zuma when the base gets into 40"ish range.

New Year's Day

Yesterday was a very beautiful New Year's Day at The Basin. The sun was shining and people were out and about enjoying the skiing and riding. It has been a good holiday week up here. We will keep plugging away at getting more terrain open. There might be a couple little storms moving through this week. We will keep a close eye on them.
