No way. This is so sad. I just had a good discussion with him on Sunday about avalanches and how he keeps us all safe. What happened?

A great loss to us all. I am privileged to have known and worked with Leif for 11 years both as a "NAT" on the hill at A-Basin and in the NSP OEC medical training programs. He was an outstanding patrolmen, trainer, mentor, and just a overall quality guy. My thoughts and prayers to Denise, the boys, and the family. We will all miss him. Bill Kyrioglou

Good morning Alan,
Very sorry to see this news this morning. I have very good memories of patrolling with Leif. He taught me so much and I could have learned so much more from him. Definitely one of the best. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and to all of the staff and patrollers at the Basin. See you soon, Mike Decker

I worked at A-Basin from 1993-1997 and Leif was one of the nicest (if not the nicest) employees at the mountain.

One of my fondest memories of working there was skiing with him between the 1st and 2nd Ally's. At one point I lost track of him but then he literally ran into me! Normally I don't like it when someone crashes into me, but with Leif I knew it was an honest mistake. We had a good laugh and finished our run.

RIP Leif. You will be missed.

What a shock and what sadness to read of Leif's passing. I met Leif in the mid-80s as a 15 year old junior ski patroller at Keystone and enjoyed working with him in the years that followed. He was always full on life and carried that with him when he moved up the hill to the 'Basin. My thoughts and prayers are with Leif's family and those who knew and loved such a wonderful guy.

Man, that is really bad news. My heart goes out to the Borgesons and the entire A-Basin family. I will sincerely miss bantering with Leif on weekends at the Basin; he could dish it out with the best of 'em. Huge loss!

Leif gave so much to the rescue community, especially the Flight for Life avalanche deployment projects. Leif, it is impossible to imagine the snowcapped peaks without your shadow on one somewhere.

My heart sunk and I balled shamelessly when I read this news, and then a couple of days went by, and I smiled, and I was very psyched that I knew Leif well, and that we laughed alot everytime I saw him. And that is how I choose to move forward....smiling. Thanks Leif.

I didn't know Leif, but I love everyone I've met at the Basin. From all the thoughts it sounds like a nice guy. I just wanted to pass on my thoughts and prayers to his wife and kids. Hopefully it will give them strenght to cope with the loss. So sad.
