Summer Skiing at A-Basin

With the incredible snowfall and cool weather, we are extending the season. We will be open 7 days a week through June 5. We will re-open for AT LEAST 2 3-day weekends June 10, 11, and 12 and June 17, 18, and 19. Each day we will open at 8:30 AM. Black Mountain Express will close at 2:00 PM and Lenawee Mountain Lift will close at 2:30 PM. The next question, of course, is what about the 4th of July. Well, we would like to be open on the 4th, but it is still a little too early to make that call. Please be patient on that one. We are excited about the great snow season and are very excited to be open for extra skiing and riding in June.

Woo hoo!!! A-Basin! You guys are the best!!

Here's to hoping the often quoted folklore of A-Basin staying open until the 4th of July actually comes true this year. :-)

haha, i think maybe 10 or 15 years ago you guys were advertising you'd stay open 'til July 4th, you ended up closing the 2nd ;-)

Doing great guys!!!

You have a good memory. That was 2003 and I was the one that said we'd make the 4th and then had to pull the plug July 2. We simply ran out of snow. I don't want to make that mistake again. Hence, we will get a lot closer to the 4th before we commit to being open that late. Good memory. I have been trying to forget that.

Alan,
I followed up with a response to your question re my comment on (over)grooming) on May 6, but never saw that get posted. Not sure if you got it or not.

Anyway, was back today and FABULOUS conditions and just enough, but not too much grooming.

Thanks again for your personal interest in our comments.

Hey Anonymous Grooming Question,

I did look into your question about why so much grooming May 6. I don't have an exact answer, but a couple of items fell into play. Sometimes the drivers just have a big night and that was one of those nights. Each night we have a plan - sometimes we get a little less done and sometimes a little more. That was an alot more kind of night. Secondly, as we get into spring, the snow that is the most packed holds up the best. By grooming more, we can make it last longer. We were trying to pack a few extra areas to make them last longer. Hope that helps answer the question. It was a big night trying to extend the season. I really appreciate good questions like that. Thanks and I hope you can get a few more good days in. Take care. Al

I'm happy to say I've skied on the 4th at the Basin once in my life.

Must have been 199-something. Can somebody fill me in? I have the pictures to prove it. I was no local at the time. I am now, though. Just one of those years I guess.

Hey SB,

Skiing on the 4th is an experience you'll never forget. Since 1978 we have been open on the 4th in 1993, 1995, 1996, and 1997. Our latest closing was August 10th in 1995. Those were big snow years. Much like this one.

It truly would be a shame if we got beat by a California resort.....( mammoth mtn) OR snowbird.... please keep up :)

Hey Al,

I was wondering if you guys make it into late June/early July would BMX only be open for downloading or would you guys pack a TON of snow onto wrangler or High noon? Also, If there was downloading on BMX wouldn't it make more sense to use the Norway chair instead of the Lenawee?

Thanks for taking interest in our Questions,

Mike
