Let's Go Skiing Friday

Time to dig out that gear. We are going to open Friday for the 2014-15 season. We have had two exceptional windows of snowmaking weather. The snowmakers get an A+. After touring the mountain and "dropping the blade" a few times, the cat drivers were all smiles. They said they had more snow than usual to work with. It looks like we are in store for some absolutely beautiful fall skiing weather through the weekend.

I am really looking forward to catching up with people and getting the place rolling again. This will be fun.

The chairlift will open at 8:30 on weekends and at 9:00 weekdays. The ticket and pass office opens 30 minutes before the lift opens. The Guest Service Office opens at 8:00 7 days a week.

Vail Resorts will have staff on site opening day and the first couple of weekends to help with their pass issues (forgotten passes, pass in the mail, etc.)

Skied my first time at A basin on cheap x cross countries with crazy hippies from Montezuma.
I survived; destined to return one day. Friday is the day I have waited 32 years for.
Time to drive.

To ski on rocks?

You'll have a hard time finding rocks on High Noon.

No camping in the parking lot.

Loveland on their web page congratulated A-basin on the opening day. Class act! Wish Loveland could partner on the Epic pass. Since they don't and addition to my Epic pass, I purchase a 4 pack every year to score Loveland's epic powder days.

Seems like a short summer. Does anyone know what the shortest summer season(fewest days between closing for 1 season and opening for the next) is at the Basin?

Also, what is the longest ski season (number of skiing day)?

A quick look at the blog history shows the 2010-2011 season opened on October 25th and closed on July 4th, making it 8 months, one week, and two days long. Not sure if it's a record, but probably the longest in recent history.

The next fall (2011) the lifts started turning on October 13th. So things were only closed for 3 months, one week and two days.

I'm sure someone out there has records of opening and closing dates going back for a long time.

Our shortest summer was 2011. We were closed 100 days.

The longest season was 1994/95. We were open 246 days in a row. This season was pre-snowmaking. We opened December 9 and closed August 10.

Alan Henceroth - COO and Vice President said...

We were open 237 days in 2010-11. In June and July we were only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Had we been open 7 days a week, that year would be the record for most days open.

What are the park features going to be?

My wife and I will be joining all the youngsters on the tomorrow! We have a combined age of 122 years and we never tire of opening day at A-Basin.

The snowfall totals in 1994/95 must have been over the top to be open all the way into August. Imagine if you had snowmaking - that could have been 300+ days! Lets duplicate that with the snowmaking this season!!

Will you be open on Monday?
