Perfect Day

Well, we had another good one. Beautiful. Bluebird skies. New snow. Phenomenal grooming. Great deck scene at BML. The Spine and The Alleys were sweet.  I took a couple of laps in Zuma this afternoon. The cat drivers did a tremendous job last night. A few more good nights by the drivers are in the plans. There is snow in the forecast for the weekend. The future looks bright.

You talk Skiing.

Only show pictures of people sitting around getting some sun.

You must have a boring job.

Perfect day, indeed. There's no other ski resort that consistently delivers such a great experience. I've been over 10 times this season and plan on doubling my visits. Thanks for keeping the legend alive and well.

Alan,

I am desperately trying to remain loyal to the Basin but your team keeps making it harder every year. Today I had a midday break in meetings so I grabbed my son and ran up to the Basin for a few runs on Pali and a quick lunch. We pulled up to the Early Riser lot around 11:15 encouraged that there was plenty of parking right near Pali and almost no one on the lift. That was until your parking attendant sent us away because we didn't have 3 people in the car. Apparently your new policy is that only 3+ person cars are allowed in the lot??? We drove to the upper lots and it was such a mess (they were sending cars to the furthest possible spaces) that it would easily be 30 min before we could park, get a shuttle and get over to Pali . . . so we left very discouraged and disappointed.

The worst part is that when we left, all those spaces near Pali were still empty. I understand that the holidays are a busy time for visitors (which are vital to the financial well being of the ski industry), but we both know that the family on vacation from Iowa would rather park in the upper lot and take a shuttle than have to hike over to the Black Mtn lift from the outer reaches of the Early Riser lot . . . while your loyal locals would rather park near Pali.

I am writing this comment because I want the Basin to succeed. Your mountain is great, but there are plenty of other mountains with comparable terrain. What sets the Basin apart is the laid back 'small mountain' atmosphere, your friendly staff and the quick access to some of your best terrain (Pali). If you forsake your key contingency in lieu of chasing the occasional skier and tourist dollars, you may stand to lose more revenue than you gain (my family spends exponentially more during our 20+ annual visits than the one-time holiday visitor will spend today). Incidentally, I followed 2 other cars down the hill who similarly gave up and turned around.

Please do not push away your most loyal customers with continued commercialization.

To the comment above, wtf are you talking about? You are complaining about having to park in the upper lot, which is still free, and still a shorter walk than any other ski area in Colorado?

Please go down the hill and ski somewhere else. You won't be missed.
