Reading Snow Reports

There are people out there that look at the daily snow reports for all areas and go to the area that reports the most snow. Sometimes you get great skiing when you do that. Sometimes you miss so much. There is a fine art to reading and understanding the snow and weather reports. The most is not always the best. Enjoy these Dave Camara photos from yesterday when we reported 2" new.

The cornice is always a bit deeper thankfully

I was there on sunday when it "dumped". Spine and Rock Garden wore my legs down.

It wasn't super deep but 3 inches in Palli are better than 6 inches somewhere else :-}

For once in very long while that it doesn't go a-basin's way we will survive

Great pics! Looking good.

BTW, any updates on when The Beavers expansion will happen?

Anybody can slash snow and make it spray. Stop trying to fake it.

No more expansions for a while. The basin has been a mess lately and is quickly becoming just another vail resort. And btw, anybody can slash snow and make it look decent.

I second this question

I know it's off topic, but someone mentioned it...stay out of the beavers. Remember what makes the legend the legend...lets get back to legend status.

Yeah, Al, when ya opening up dat Beaver?

Yeah, people who ski breck listen to christian rock!

Al I guess a lot depends on the wind. You guys can get 2-3 inches but a heavy wind can blow it off the hill and scrape a lot of areas or a gentle wind can deposit it nicely in some areas or get no wind and get nice even coverage.

No expansion into the beavers. Abasin has done enough lately.

Big fan of expanding to the beavers. Love glade runs and would make abasin even better.

Al,

Wanted to thank you and ABasin for another fantastic day! We were in the area from Feb 18-23 and hit Keystone and Vail before finishing out the trip on Monday the 23rd at ABasin.

The weekend was stormy and conditions were still decent, but we were pretty frustrated with the crowds and long lift lines at the first two places. I checked the weather before heading up to ABasin Monday and it looked like another cloudy/snowy day - we were fine with that. It could have been a thunderstorm and we would have still come up to grab some food and a beer and enjoy the new 6th Alley!

Right off the bat I had goggle problems, so I went to Arapahoe Sports to "look" at a new pair. The people there were awesome and gave me a couple suggestions for the old pair. I, of course, ended up buying new goggles - and the staff was nice enough to hold on to the old ones for me so I didn't have to go back to the truck.

Well, the sun came out midday and we were able to soak it up for a bit at Black Mountain Lodge before taking a few more runs to close out the day and ensure that our legs were toast. It was beautiful. Once again - ABasin came through and was the highlight of the whole trip! We also made a few more friends there after the lifts closed and I'm sure we'll meet up again on the next trip.

Thanks again for running such a great place - you, your staff, and your guests make ABasin our favorite place every year!
