Kid Stop

The Black Mountain Express will be the first lift in the United States with the Leitner Poma product called "Kid Stop." They have been used successfully in Europe and Canada. The Kid Stop rests on a person's thighs and provides a slightly snugger fit on the chairlift. It does bend upward to accommodate larger people. At no point is a there an awkward or tight fit. It is designed to help kids and parents feel a little more comfortable while riding the lift. Since the lift is only 3 minutes long we chose to exclude foot rests.

I hope nobody lowers the bar this year because that just looks uncomfortable. Plus lowering the bar is stupid. In all my years skiing and snowboarding I have never come close to falling of a chair including many abrupt stops. Such a waste. Plus it is another thing on the bar to whack me on the head when somebody lowers the bar. I will take an old centerpole double without a bar over a high speed with a bar any day.

Good concern about discomfort, but lowering the bar is not stupid. Especially for us with small children. I can finally ride anxiety-free up A-Basin with our 6yr old.

Great blog, Al!

3 minute ride time sounds good, but what was it before?

The ride on Exo was 6 minutes if uniterrupted. With stops and slows it was usually closer to 8 minutes. The easier loading of a detachable lift better suits entry level skiers. We hope to see considerably fewer slows and stops with the new lift.

Cool, too bad this means opening day will be twice as crowded as before.

i agree with bobian the kid stop will be very uncomfortable. the short ride is an advantage plus (i believe) there will be downloading so that is there is a wedding or something like that up at black mountain lodge there will be barely any stops!

THANKS AL! YOU DO A GREAT JOB EVERY DAY!
