Wet Slides

If you have been skiing The Basin the last week, you have seen a number of wet avalanches both inside and outside the area. The above average spring snow coupled with very warm spring temperatures have created conditions ideal for these slides to occur. We very aggressively manage areas where we think these slides might occur. Explosives have proven to have minimal effectiveness with wet slides. As we think these spring slide conditions are developing, we close avalanche prone areas. This sometimes causes angst for some of our guests when an area still has lots of snow, but it is closed. We understand the frustration, but feel the closures are warranted.

No explosives, all natural

We skied there yesterday (June 3) and saw those slides on the East Wall (as well as many other places along Loveland Pass). Any idea when they came down or what triggered them? Looked pretty fresh to me.
Overall, great June skiing! Thanks for keeping it going.

Any of that wetness seeped into Lake Revel yet?

I worked there back in the early 90s. We hosted the Powder 8s in late April or early May I think (maybe Breck didn't have enough snow?)
Anyway, for argument's sake I'd say the comp was at around noon. By 4 or 5 pm all of the tracks were covered by massive wet slabs.
Got lucky on that one! Stay safe. Thanks for the hard work.

This time of year those wet slides will pop off all over the place!(especially after 12) They take very little to trigger and move slow as peanut butter, but I wouldnt want to be caught in that stuff! I have been noticing N aspects wet sliding more than other aspects recently, Alot of terrain is shedding these last couple of storms. be safe out there. love your work AL -your the man!

Please let the park crew put the two larger rails back in! Each was perfect and great outside of the lodge!
