End Of The Day

I had a very nice late day ski. A few flurries were falling and patches of blue sky and sun were popping out. I found exceptional skiing on The Nose and Slalom Slope. The Park Crew is hard at working getting the Treeline Terrain Park open. Just another great January day at The Basin.

Al...any updates on opening The Beavers? From what I remember next season was a possibility...or maybe it was the year after. Either way, I hope the progress is going well. Thanks as well for making the Steep Gully's hike back terrain. I'd prefer not having people back there that don't belong!

Steep gullies is not hike back terrain. It's backcountry. Did this change recently or are you referring to the Beavers expansion?

I think that the Beavers Expansion plans included the gullies as hike back terrain

There was a casualty in one of them not long ago. Not sure if this particular gully will be part of the expansion. Given how close it is to palli, it does not make sense to build another lift.

I'm under the impression that all of the Steep Gully's will be open, but you will need to hike back up a cat track up to Pali. The Beavers lift will be above the bottom of the gullies, so no way to get back up there. I just think it's a good idea to keep the yahoos out of there otherwise patrol will be hauling people out too often. Yahoos tend not to want to walk up. I've had too many people ask to follow me down some of this when they clearly have no business out there.

Hopefully Al is in a position to give us an update soon. I understand if they aren't at a point to comment now. I would guess without any news now that it will be 2017-2018 before the Beavers is open as part of the area.

The novelty of a new 4 seat chair at pali will bring about some curiosity but gravity usually thins out the herd. I have had my encounters with yahoos but in high noon/ramrod of all places :-}
