Afternoon Spine Treat

Yesterday afternoon I had a very nice ski around the mountain. We reported 2" of new snow at 5 AM and maybe had another inch after that. This time of year, you might be expecting to find the new, loose snow on top of some pretty firm stuff. No doubt, some of that exists, but I found plenty of great snow especially in Montezuma Bowl and The East Wall. By far, the treat of the day was The Spine. It has not really reached the melt part of the melt / freeze cycle yet. New snow on a good carvable base. It was really good.

Where is the Basin's snowpack in comparison to past seasons at this point? It seems like things have really dried up this spring.
