A-Basin Enduro

The A-Basin Enduro is a 10 hour long event April 16. Teams of two skiers and/or riders ski as many laps on Pali as they can. Top teams ski a ridiculous number of laps. The event is also a fundraiser with an apres ski party, dinner and a silent auction in The 6th Alley Bar and Grill. Live music will be provided by High 5. All proceeds go to A-Basin friend Trevor Giles who was paralyzed in a biking accident near Vail Pass last summer.

When I checked the numbers this morning, there was only room for 7 more teams so sign up soon (like tonight). If the skiing is too much for you, still join the fun. Great people, great food, great music, and, most importantly, a great chance to give Trevor a hand. See you there.

What is the record for number of laps on pali for this event?

I think the record is 76 laps. The teams routinely get over 60.

Freaking crazy.

Is there a coed division?

Why are teams counting their own laps this year? A big part of the allure to this event was the competitive aspect. I think taking that away really changes the overall feel. Teams that have never had the chance to compete until this year are probably feeling pretty robbed right now. Its supposed to be an enduro race, emphasis on race! ...pretty lame...

How many minutes does it take to ride the Pali lift?

Pali is about 7 minutes.

As far as counting goes, with all the action at the bottom it is hard to keep everybody straight. Each team knows exactly how many laps they have done. While a few teams are competitive with each other, most teams are in it for a good, long, personal best, endurance kind of day. Again, a few teams are very competitive, but most people are in it for a good day on the hill, a personal best, a good cause, and camaraderie. Overall, this is not a big hyped up competitive thing. It is a hyped up really fun and unique thing. The teams are already counting.
