Awesome Snow Stats

I have been getting a lot of questions about snow statistics. The quick summary is we are having a great snow season and way ahead on most metrics. We do have a lot of snow data and there are a lot of ways to slice and dice it. I compared this year with two past seasons, 2010-11 and 2012-13, and the 35 year average.

The 2010-11 season was a banner year. Every month, October through June, had above average snowfall. We set the record for April snowfall that season and, you might remember, we stayed open until the 4th of July.

Last season, 2012-13, was very weak for snowfall for the early and mid-season, but had a very strong finish.

So, comparing those seasons through March 15:

In 2010-11 we had 267 inches YTD with a March 15 mid-mountain base of 73 inches.

In 2012-13 we had 158 inches YTD with a March 15 mid-mountain base of 45 inches.

This season we have had 305 inches YTD with a March 15 mid-mountain base of 76 inches.

Our 35 year average as of the March 31 is 252 inches YTD with an average March mid-mountain base of 61 inches.

So to sum it up, this season's snowfall is a bit ahead of 2010-11 and way ahead of last year and the 35 year average. It is way too early to start talking about extending the season so don't even ask.

........And it is snowing this morning.
