T-Shirt and Top to Bottom Skiing

The 2nd 4th Of July T-Shirt is in. You can pick one up in Arapahoe Sports or pre-order at teresad@a-basin.net.

Went for snowcat tour this morning. Summer is here. We should have four more good days of top to bottom skiing and riding this weekend. Look for Lenawee Face, Humbug, Dercum's Gulch, and High Noon to be groomed and open on the 4th.

Marnie Jump

Marjorie (Marnie) Jump passed away Thursday at 92 years years of age. Marnie was the wife of Larry Jump, A-Basin’s original president. She was an integral part of the opening, development, and operation of Arapahoe Basin. It is fair to say that without Marnie, it is likely that Arapahoe Basin would not have gone from the idea phase to become a Legendary Colorado ski area. I was lucky enough to meet her a few times and to see her inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame. Each day we ski and ride at The Basin, we should appreciate the extraordinary gift Marnie gave us so many years ago.

More information about her life can be found at:

Smiling and Summer Skiing

Another great summer day. Took about 7 runs and enjoyed Ramrod, High Noon, Sundance, Cornice Run, West Wall, Norway Face, and more. It just seems like everyone is having a good time. The mountain goats continue their daily display. Next time you ride Lenawee be sure and look to your left near the top of the lift. This time of year you can almost always spot them. Kimberly posted a great goat photo on the Mountain Snapshots page of the website. Hope to see you the next two days and the 4th Of July weekend.

End of June Skiing

Ok, today is sunny and warm, but that is what it looked like around here on Monday. We are in store for another great weekend of skiing and riding. High Five will be playing at Black Mountain Lodge on Saturday. Grab the skis and snowboards and head this way. Nothing beats making a few turns, skimming Lake Reveal, watching the goats, and checking out the crowd.

More new snow today. I love these sunrise shots from the webcams. Winter, spring, or summer? Sometimes hard to tell this time of year. I guess we have a couple more good, long weekends of skiing ahead of us.

6" New

Last night's storm of 6" new snow shouldy help. It is not unusual for us to get 1-2 feet of snow this time of year.

There Will Be Skiing On July 4th

The snow is good. People want to ski and ride. We will be skiing at The Basin on the 4th of July. We will re-open for two more weekends, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday June 24, 25, and 26 and Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday July 1, 2, 3, and 4. Break out the red, white, and blue and enjoy an Independance Day you will never forget. Look for developing details on the Summer Skiing page of our website. Thanks for being part of this extraordinary season.

Lots of Snow Out There

I did a morning snowcat tour with Tim today. There is still a lot of snow on the hill. While a few places are melting out, our main travel corridors, particularly those with snowmaking, have heaps of snow. So are we going to be open for weekends until the 4th of July? We need two things to do that. 1) We need enough snow and I am comfortable saying we have enough snow. For mid-June I think the snow is extraordinary. And 2) Enough people need to be skiing to make it worth-while. In this case, if the demand is there, we will stay open. All that said, if business is good Friday and Saturday, we will extend the season. I hope you can enjoy a few more good days with us. Look for a decision mid-day Saturday.

Lake Reveal Booty

There were a lot of laughs getting these skis and sunglasses out of Lake Reveal. I didn't really understand what Tim meant when he said, "Let's go fish that gear out of the lake." As we pulled up to the lake he then said, "I'd do this, but my feet don't fit in the waders." After breaking through the 1/2" inch skin of ice, I had waded at least 10 feet out in the pond before the waders starting leaking. There were some vintage A-Basin laughs at ourselves about, "Who else in the world would be doing this?"

Because it is a Great Picture

This is an awesome photo of a group, Xcelbeyond.org, having fun learning how to ski on Molly Hogan back in April.

Mountain Goats

It is that time of year when I see mountain goats almost every time I ride Lenawee Mountain Lift. These photos were taken Saturday afternoon from the top of Humbug Ski Trail. The goats were laying around on the shoulder of Little Lenawee Peak. They are the official icon of Arapahoe Basin. Big, hearty, rugged, beatiful, and enjoyed by everyone. Amazing animals.

Treeline Terrain Park

The Treeline Terrain Park had the 5 features shown in these photos open this weekend. Unfortunately, the warm weather keeps us froming having a jump. As long as we are open this summer, we will have some type of terrain park features available. We anticipate the same or very similar features being available for next weekend June 17, 18, and 19. Thanks for coming up to play.

Lake Reveal

Lake Reveal (named after Jon Reveal the A-Basin General Manager in the late 70's and early 80's) was in fine form today
