8" New This Morning

8" new this morning made for some pretty good skiing.

Ace's Wild Adventure

Scattered about the mountain we have four trails, Lynx Lane, Weasel Way, Mountain Goat Alley, and Moose Hollow, that make up Ace's Wild Adventure. They are fun blue trails that wind through wooded areas. While designed for kids, I have seen a few adults having a little fun on them. The trail signs have interpretive information about that specific animal such as a description, habitat, diet, and interesting facts. There is great information there to share with your kids (and maybe read a bit yourself).

Even Better, 8" New

The storm gave us quite a bit more.  8 inches new this morning, 14 inches for the storm, 55 inches for March, and 330 inches for the season. And we are going into April, our snowiest month. Then we have May, and then we have June, and then ..................

Mother Nature Was Good Last Night

Mother Nature was very good to us last night. It snowed fairly intensely for a while with some good wind. My morning evaluation of The Spine and other places got a big thumbs up. We should see a few more inches by tomorrow. This is setting up to be one heck of a spring.

This Week's Storm

Our storm of the week is moving in. After a sunny morning, the clouds rolled in. We had an afternoon of mixed weather with some sun and some intense showers. The forecast looks pretty good for snow into Friday. Saturday might actually be sunny. I went out to verify that The Spine was still buffed and skiing well. It is.

Gaper Day

Spring at The Basin has a long history of tailgating, costumes and good fun. Over the last several years Gaper Day has become a big deal on April 1. While there is lots of fun associated with that day, there is also some behavior that is really not part of The Basin vibe and culture. Drinking too much and / or making fun of others is really not so cool. The Basin is all about This Mountain and its People. Come celebrate those things with us. Enjoy a safe day of skiing and leave the bad behavior at home.

The Spine

Of all the runs I have ever skied anywhere, The Spine is my favorite. Right now, with the kind winds and available snow for transport, it has become exceptionally buffed. The wind fills in the troughs and smooths it out. I think carving big turns on it is one of A-Basin's finest experiences. I hope you get a chance to enjoy it when it looks like this.

East Wall Poster

The East Wall Poster, with all those special names, is now available in Arapahoe Sports in the A-Frame.

New Snow and Sunny

3 inches of new snow this morning and mostly sunny skies today should make for a very nice Sunday. Enjoy a few more pictures from yesterday's storm.

Another Snowy Saturday

We have had another snowy Saturday. A few inches fell off and on throughout the day. Great skiing everywhere, especially the North Side. Well, I guess the Upper Mountain was really good too. Yeah, and The East Wall was awesome. Now, that I think about I had a couple of nice runs in the Fourteeners back in Zuma. Yep, pretty nice out there.

A Lot To Talk About

What A Day. The morning and into the early afternoon was just an absolutely perfect, A-Basin kind of bluebird day. The skiing was tremendous. As I speak, High 5 is playing up a storm over in The 6th Alley. After the lifts closed we completed our first spring Alpine Ascents Rando Series race. Patio created a course that had these guys, climbing, crawling, skiing, and sweating their way around the mountain ending with an apres party in the A-Frame. The Enduro is sold out. If still interested, call Guest Services and get your name on the waiting list. Lastly, it just might snow. Pick your forecast, but it seems like 4-8" by Sunday is very possible. It was another very good day.

A-Basin Enduro

The A-Basin Enduro is a 10 hour long event April 16. Teams of two skiers and/or riders ski as many laps on Pali as they can. Top teams ski a ridiculous number of laps. The event is also a fundraiser with an apres ski party, dinner and a silent auction in The 6th Alley Bar and Grill. Live music will be provided by High 5. All proceeds go to A-Basin friend Trevor Giles who was paralyzed in a biking accident near Vail Pass last summer.

When I checked the numbers this morning, there was only room for 7 more teams so sign up soon (like tonight). If the skiing is too much for you, still join the fun. Great people, great food, great music, and, most importantly, a great chance to give Trevor a hand. See you there.

Nice Day, Good Crew

I enjoyed a beautiful day skiing and wandering around with a good crew.......again. It's not a bad way to make a living. Thursday and Friday look like bluebird days and maybe a little storm on Saturday.   I think I have said ".....a storm on Saturday" many, many times this season.
