17 Inches In Four Days

Reporting new snow 3 of the last 4 mornings, our 4 day total is 17 inches. This morning we reported 6 inches new again and there appears to be one more burst of snow again tonight. It is almost May and we have an 80 inch base. The first half of the week is powder skiing. The second half of the week should be vintage, sunny, bluebird, A-Basin kind of weather. My kind of week.

A Warm Up - Not Temperatures

Yesterday's powder day may be a warm up for what is coming the next few days. Basin loyalist know "it ain't over until it's over." It is very common for us to get big, Spring storms. Right now, we have one forecasted. Lots of things can happen. Sometimes the storms are bigger than forecast. Sometimes smaller. Let's see how this one plays out. I am optimistic.

If I was you, I would clear my schedule the next few days.

Sunny, Bluebird Powder Day - 5" New

5 inches new this morning. Springtime and that means some good powder days. Late yesterday and into the evening, the snow really came down for a while. Today, skies are blue with just a few clouds. This will be one of those really awesome days. The kind you remember for quite some time. On top of that, we may be shaping up for a snowy week.

Park Scene

Spring is a special time for the A-Basin Terrain Park scene. The High Divide park has some very fun, very easy features and the Treeline park has some bigger, more challenging features.

Prime Spring Skiing

We are in about as prime of Spring Skiing conditions as one could hope for. Coverage is still outstanding. The snow is soft, but not sloppy. This is a really great time to enjoy the mountain. Definitely bring you sun screen.

A Day In The Spring

We often see unsettled, highly variable weather in the Spring. Yesterday afternoon a band of "thunder-snow" ran through The Basin. Last night we saw a couple inches of heavy wet snowfall. This morning was crystal clear and sunny. In the early afternoon, more clouds rolled through with very light, intermittent showers. Now it is mostly sunny and warm. Just another Spring day here.

From King Cornice

Friday and Saturday were brilliant Spring days. I love those conditions just as the snow softens, carve-able, but not too slushy. Enjoy the view from the top of King Cornice looking north.

Surprise Snow

This morning we had a very nice surprise with 2 inches of new snow. It continued to snow all morning and into the afternoon. We picked up an additional couple inches. Eventually, the sun popped out, the snow softened up and the skiing was awesome. Tomorrow is looking good with blue skies and a high near 50 F in the forecast. My kind of Arapahoe Basin day.

Heading For Classic Spring Weather

The Basin is world renowned for its Spring skiing and we are heading for some classic Spring weather. It took a while for the snow to soften this morning, but once it did, the skiing was fabulous. Looking at the forecast for the next four days, we are in for some beauties. We should see warm temps and clear skies, partly cloudy skies and most cloudy skies. There might even be a snow flurry or two. That said, temps should be warm and the snow should be slushy fun.

I just took this photo on an after work skin up in the Shooting Gallery.

Double Down

Wow, we have never had this much interest in the Double Down. This is awesome. The 2019-20 and 2020-21 Double Down will go on sale this summer. Give us a few days and we will get the price and a specific date up on the website. You won't be able to buy it right now, but you will be able to know just how much it is and when it is available. Thanks for the great feedback.

VERY IMPORTANT SEASON PASS MESSAGE

Dear Arapahoe Basin Friends,

We are having a great Spring at The Basin with seven feet of snow in March and a good storm pattern forecast for April.  The ski season has at least a couple of strong months to go.

Thanks to all of you that expressed your thoughts to us about leaving Vail. We are continuing to work closely with potential resort partners. Finalizing new partnerships is still going to take a few more months. While there is a lot we do not know, there are some things we do know.

The Arapahoe Basin Season Pass, currently on sale for $399, will be the only unlimited season pass product for A-Basin in the 2019-20 season. If you would like to ski 8 or more days at The Basin, this is the only pass that will offer that option. We are still looking at opportunities to join other resort programs, but none of those programs will include unlimited access at A-Basin.

The Arapahoe Basin Season Pass will be on sale for $399 through April 30, 2019. On May 1, 2019, the price goes up to $449. If you want an unlimited Arapahoe Basin season pass, this is your only option and this is absolutely the lowest price you will see.

Look Closely At Our Website for all the season pass options. There are some especially good products for kids. I hope you will seriously consider buying a pass with us. We have lots of exciting times in store for you at The Basin. Thanks.

Alan

The Endurans

And they are off. One hour down, nine hours to go. Our Enduro skiers and riders and two snow bikers are off to an enthusiastic start. Right now it is snowing so hard, it feels like dusk. While a small numbers of the teams are seriously competitive with each other, the vast majority of The Endurans are out there for fun, trying to set personal records, trying to finish and generally, being awesome citizens. The only person to have skied all 30 Enduros, Ed Boardman, is out there again leading the charge.

What a great event. Hope to see you at the party this evening.

View From The Top

The last few days have been really nice, especially here at the Top of Pali.  Spring has arrived in fine form. Of course all that changes Wednesday. We might see some pretty decent snowfall by the weekend. Winter returns.

Don't forget the Enduro on Wednesday. Good fun during the day and a phenomenal apres ski party at night. Food, drink, music (Hobo Village), silent auction and all kinds of fun. All proceeds go to our friends Taylor Ash and Jim McDonnell to help with their cancer care. See you there.

Corner Chute

Kay and I had another very nice Sunday touring around The Basin. We arrived about 10 and skied almost until last chair on Pali. We did a couple of fun hikes on The East Wall skiing East Vertical Cornice and Corner Chute. We also took several laps on Pali including a 2nd Steep Gully run. It was a beautiful, bluebird day. Early Spring conditions in many places, but definitely still winter conditions on The East Wall and much of the North Side. Another really fantastic day.

F*@K CANCER - Wednesday at The Basin

This Wednesday will be the 30th Annual Enduro at Arapahoe Basin. During the day, 35 pairs of skiers and riders will be skiing as many laps as they can on Pali. Following the event, we will be hosting a phenomenal F*@K CANCER apres ski party in the A-Frame with live music, dinner, drinks and experience rich silent auction.

Two of our finest Summit County citizens, Jim McDonnell and Taylor Ash, have been in tough cancer battles. Taylor is an amazing young woman, born and raised in Summit County, successful in school and sports, with a very bright future. Jim and I have been friends for 35 years. He is a trauma nurse and has done more to help others than anyone I know. All proceeds from the event go to Jim and Taylor.

This is a great opportunity for all of us to pitch in and help two of our best friends. I hope you can join the party.

2nd Steep Gully

The skiing was mighty fine in the 2nd Steep Gully today. There was 2-3 inches of new snow on top of a good winter surface. Snow coverage was fantastic. The entrance and the guts were just beautiful. The lower apron had a hint of Spring, but not much. Nothing but fun skiing. Pretty cool.

Willie's to Snorkelnose

My favorite kind of day - a journey through the Snorkel Door. After a long hike up the Willie's Staircase, some quality time at Borgy Rock and the final climb to the top, we slipped through the Snorkel Door, maybe my favorite spot in the ski area. The place never lets me down. Coverage in Snorkel Nose was superb, no rocks and very wide. Winter skiing, with some new snow, all the way to the traverse. The best of the best at The Basin.
