Nice Skiing, Nice Snowmaking

Went for a nice little ski this afternoon on Ramrod and High Noon.  With the other areas opening, today was a fair bit quieter than the last couple of weekends.  Short lines and not many people on the trail.  Very nice.

Last night was good for snowmaking.  We had fan guns running from mid-mountain to the top of Lenawee Mountain Lift.  Mark kept the system running until mid-day.  The forecast tonight looks good also.  Last night was a big step towards the Upper Mountain Opening.

Mark, Bill, Lizzie, and I walked Lenawee Face and Dercum's gulch this afternoon.  Not quite there yet.  The forecast is a bit more promising tonight.  It was a very beautiful walk.  My fingers are crossed.

CAIC Benefit Bash

Please plan on attending the "CAIC Benefit Bash" at the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center Saturday, November 10, 2012 from 5 - 10 PM.  This year will be the 5th event hosted by the Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC).  There will be live music (James and the Devil), great food, great beer from New Belgium Brewery, a massive silent auction, and door prizes.  There are two incredible reasons to attend, 1) it will be a great party, and 2) the event benefits the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

The CAIC is only partially funded by the state.  To keep the CAIC running, additional funds are provided by groups like the Friends of the CAIC, the ski industry, many ski shops, and thousands of individual supporters.  So......those of us that take advantage of the great service provided by CAIC forecasters have a duty and responsibility to attend parties like this, have some fun, and throw a few bucks the CAIC way.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Upper Mountain Update

We are making snow on the Upper Mountain,,,,,,SLOWLY.  We had a great streak of snowmaking weather as we completed final work on Ramrod.  Since then, weather conditions have not been ideal.  For the past few days, weather conditions have been OK for snowmaking for a few hours each night.  While still moving forward, it has not been anything to get too excited about.  The temps at night this weekend look better.  Overall, the snowmaking and natural precipitation was really good in October.  We are, very impatiently, waiting for that next blast of cold weather and moisture.

Right now High Noon, Ramrod, and The High Divide Terrain Park (w/ 6 features) are open.
