Marty Gotantas

The Basin lost a good friend yesterday. Former Ski School Director, Marty Gotantas, passed away after losing a tough, summer battle with cancer. His many, many friends will miss him dearly. The attached images are vintage Bob Winsett photos of Marty from a film shoot at A-Basin a "FEW" years back. The skis and attire stir some memories. Rest in peace Marty.

Stormy

It rained for a bit today just after lunch. As I was pulling out of the parking lot around 5:30, it was started to come down again. Now as I look out my kitchen window, I can see The Basin is socked in. It will be a stormy night. There is still a very little bit of snow high on The East Wall. I suspect we will see more fresh white stuff by morning. Doubtful it will be cold enough for snowmaking though. Getting so close.

Snow

We have a little bit of snow. This is good on so many fronts. The weather has definitely seen a shift over the last week. A bit of moisture on the ground and in the streams is always good. People get excited. And, it just looks really cool.

The temps are getting better. This still was not quite productive snowmaking weather, but we are getting closer. Keep your eye on the webcams, the weather forecasts, our website and my blog. The action will start intensifying.

Avalanche Dogs

Attached is a very nice piece by CBS Channel 4 on the Colorado Rapid Avalanche Deployment (CRAD) program. Being interviewed is CRAD Director Matt Norfleet. Matt's day job is the Assistant Ski Patrol Director at Arapahoe Basin. Enjoy the story.
