Weather Forecasts

Between personally wanting to spend a lot of time outside and my need to know about weather conditions at work, I spend a lot of time looking at weather forecasts. Most days I look at several different forecasts several times a day. I took a weather forecasting class back in my ski patrol days and the instructor said, "If you aren't checking the forecast every 6 hours, you don't know #$&*." Since then I have made it a habit to check the forecast frequently.

One of my favorite forecasters is Joel Gratz at Opensnow.com. I just checked out his most recent forecast for A-Basin. Right now it looks like a chance of moisture over the weekend and, finally, some colder temperatures next week. I will keep checking multiple times every day. There is something out there to pay attention to and to get interested in. I like it.

Power and Snowmaking Update

A-Basin and Xcel are taking advantage of this lull in the weather to fix a couple of things. As a result we are going to be going another day or two with intermittent power, email, phones, e-store and more. I apologize for any inconveniences this might be causing you. I know it is hard to reach us this week, but a little bit of extra work now reduces the chances of outages once we are in ski season.

On another note, last night the wet bulb got down to 28.5 F about 4 AM. The snowmakers fired up some guns anticipating a further drop in the temperature. Well, it didn't happen. They shut down following a valiant, but very wet effort. Stay tuned, things are looking better towards the weekend.

Frost Advisory

There is a light frost warning for parts of the state this evening. While not a big turn in the weather, we might see some cooler weather by sunrise. The snowmakers are ready to give it a shot if it gets cold enough. Stay tuned Tuesday morning.
