High Noon Update

Today was our first sunny day in a few days. I just walked High Noon to get a better look at the snowmaking. I was very pleased. We have a really good top to bottom start. Looks like Saturday should be sunny also and then we ought to get some more snow Sunday. The nights look cold. This is good.

About Opening

The last three days have been tremendous. We have made lots of snow and Mother Nature has delivered lots of natural snow. This storm has been a winner for us in another way. It is still early Fall. The sun will come out again and much of the snow of South facing slopes will melt. That increases the streamflow making more water available for snowmaking. All the way around, this has been a great weather event for us.

Regarding opening, it is still a little too early to call. The forecast is very encouraging. When you start seeing snowcats on the hill, that is a good sign we are getting close. As soon as I know when we are going to open, I will let you guys when we are going to open.

For now, go enjoy a weekend of skiing at Wolf Creek (kudos to those guys). Stay tuned for details on our opening.

Snowing and Snowmaking

It is snowing nicely up here this morning. Last night the snowmakers had another very good session. Two big nights in a row. We hope to keep the snowmaking system running all day. If we are really lucky, maybe we can run it all day tomorrow also. So while we had previously run the system a few times, that was practice and training and maybe a little bit of snowmaking. This session is the real deal.

20 F Wet Bulb

Now that was a good night. We had a few more inches of snow. The temperature dropped another 10 degrees after dark. The snowmakers have their system operating at near capacity. The forecast looks very promising. The Basin is a snowy, cold place this morning.

Snowiest Morning Yet

We had some snow last night. I think this is our snowiest morning so far. The temperatures were not quite cold enough to make snow. We should see a little more snow today and we should have good snowmaking temperatures tonight. This ought to be a good week.

Hanging Out In Telluride

The last couple of days we were able to enjoy a weekend get away on the via ferrata in Telluride. With the snowy/cold forecast, this week is going to be all work. My favorite kind of work. Snow, snow, snow.

New Skyline

Norway is gone, but there is something new on that skyline.
