One of the hardest parts of my job is dealing with bad rumors. This season there were a lot of bad rumors about snowmaking. They tended to be something like "A-Basin is out of water" or "A-Basin can't make snow". Most of you know those rumors were complete BS.
Mark LaFlamme and his crew have just completed a very successful snowmaking season under very challenging conditions. It is no secret that streamflows in Colorado have been lower than we would like. That does impact snowmaking. Despite the challenges, A-Basin was able to make snow on 90+% of the acres where we normally make snow. It might have taken a little bit longer than normal and we had to get creative a few times, but snowmaking for this season was successful.
In the very complicated world of water law and water regulations, every year we have to stop diverting water for snowmaking December 31. So, we are done making snow this season. After a productive snowmaking season, good December snowfall and good ski conditions right now, I am very excited about skiing at The Basin.
Lastly, if you ever hear one of those crazy, stupid rumors, let me know. I will do my best to set it straight. Thanks.
