$1.25 Lift Tickets

This is a photo from the 1946-47 season, A-Basin's first official lift served season. This was before the two single chairlifts were installed. The image was captured at Mid-Mountain and the photographer is standing in what today would be the driveway of the Booster Pump Station just North of Black Mountain Lodge. The building on the left is the old Midway BBQ. That season there was a rope tow in the meadow to the Southeast of Black Mountain Lodge. Skiers were transported up the service road to Mid-Mountain in trucks.

The lowest sign reads "Tow Tickets $1.25 Each Including 3 Truck Rides From Highway."

When did they open that year? They only wish we had equipment like one piece ski suits and pit zips! We're already in line for first chair. Don't let any bums try to snake our space in line this year Al! I'm tired of these gangster hippies and their drop out doper bros. Let's make snowboarding illegal again and up the dress code standards. White powder!!! White powder!!!

Someone be a kind soul, save this image and send it to the poor old person who is still using AOL and doesn't know you can save pictures from the interwebs all by yourself.

That is one for the ages Al. A real beauty. Thank you.
(BTW: I need to fix my thing(y). I no longer work at UCAR. No disparagement of that great institution intended either.)

How did they make the snow back then without the snowmaking equipment we have now?

Is that going to be some kind of promotional deal this year? I'd love to see a day or two of $1.25 tickets to honor 70 years of the Legend!

2:34 post, because no skiers (especially in Summit County) are "gangster hippies." Have fun lapping abasin in October only to not go at all in April/May i.e. the best part of the season.

The moment this blog becomes political is the moment I stop reading. I pray that the mountains always can be my escape from government and the pressures of daily city life. Trump and Hillary are two names that shouldn't ever be posted about on the blog... and for the anti-Trump fella's post at 8:30, I have gotten more pro-Republican vibe at the Basin than anywhere else I've been.
