We are very happy to announce that Montezuma Bowl will open Friday late Morning. The first piece of the puzzle is to get enough snow on the ground. Today we have a 40" base and it is still snowing with a few more inches expected by Friday. The second piece of the puzzle is to get the snow ready including, snow cat work, snowfencing, and avalanche mitigation. Most of the work required to get the place open is complete (although this work continues all season). Lastly, we have to get the "stuff" ready. That stuff is lift terminals, ropes, pads, signs, ski patrol gear, etc. etc. etc. We'll spend the next 48 hours getting all that stuff ready. We even trained a new gang of lift ops this week.
We will be opening Columbine, Shining Light, Independence, Larkspur, Miner's Glade, and more. You might even see MGD open later in the day. Skiing a couple of morning laps today I found excellent conditions. We reported 2" of new snow. At least another inch had fallen since report time. Excellent. When you get a chance, be sure and thank your friends in the snowcat, ski patrol, and lift departments. This will be an outstanding opening.
I love skiing back there.
