The Storm Has Arrived

The Storm has arrived.  It is snowing fairly heavily right now.  The temps are still in the 30's.  Over the next couple of hours those temps should drop well into the 20's.  We are expecting a pretty good night of snowmaking.

The snowcat drivers began dozing and pushing out the High Noon whales.  As we expected, good coverage in most areas.  The weak link is in the base area.  With the forecasted snow and snowmaking conditions, we will get that fixed in no time.  Keep checking in.

Looking back at history, A Basin has NEVER opened on a weekend. I've looked up the dates for Opening Day for the last 10 years and usually it is a mid-week day. Wednesdays most often. Looking at Al's blog history, he says the same things every year. The cats have just begun to move the mounds of snow and the base area was pretty bare this morning. With this storm and the one early next week, I think a Tuesday or Wednesday Opening Day is likely.

Whatever man, open as soon as you can. There will be enough chance to keep base building to sustain a weekend opening. I wanna ride!

Thanks as always Al for the updates! Your dedication to the blog is outstanding, and we all love it. I cannot believe we're talking about opening dates....can't wait. Seems like June was just last week. Bring on the season.

Should I buy tickets out of the ATL now?

They won't open for at least another week. Many "safety meetings" to attend and such *cough* *cough*

Word on the street is that a magic carpet is being installed up powder keg and they are putting in a new restaurant with expensive fondue and german dudes that sing and dance.

Al, just curious as to the progress on the improvements to the bar and related areas...looks closed in from the photos on the site, but dont see any finishing touches on the exterior of the main building. Of course I'm more excited about the opening, but...
