Let's Open

We are going to open tomorrow, Thursday, October 29 at 9AM. As we get close to opening, we spend a lot time looking at the snowmaking numbers, pumping rates, stream flows, reservoir recharge rates, temperature forecasts, etc. We try and figure out just when opening can occur. By this past Sunday we were thinking we could get open by Thursday or Friday "IF" everything went well. Well, conditions since then have been ideal and we received several more inches of snow. As of this morning we have enough snow, so...........................tomorrow it is.

While there is plenty of snow on the trail, it will take every bit of the next 23 hours to get the place ready. There is lots of snowcat work, ski patrol work, lift op work and general ski area work to get done in that time. Thanks to all of you for your support. Here's to a great opening.

Awesome! And I love that you will open the same day as Loveland. The respect you both have for each other is awesome and is a great example of how we can all just be happy that you are both opening and the ski season begins! We ALL win!!

Al, what's the park set up going to be on the first day? Same as last year or different?

Uphill access will not be allowed for quite some time. Between all of the snowmaking equipment, lack of available terrain, and general early-season conditions it would be way too much of a hazard. Probably won't be an option until the majority of the front side is skiable, the snowmaking has winded down, and Lenawee is running. Just chill, it's only October. Same can be said for everyone in line this weekend - just chill out and enjoy being outside.

I predict Nate Doggggg will show up at A-Basin not Loveland.....unless he clones himself.

See you guys on Monday!

When will Pali be open? Just kidding.

Nate Dogggg's streak is already over. He didn't make it to VT for their opening last week. The hype is over.

So, who get's to rip open banner from Colorado Ski Country USA proclaiming the start to the season?
Do both Loveland and A Basin get banners to rip with first chair at 9am?

Anonymous said...

Great job! Now get to work on Car Ramrod!

Mark Matis said...

Or will one of them actually open at 8:59 AM, Calob Rundell???

Good to hear. I will be there at 9 am tomorrow! Wahoo!

Is sort or raw A-Basin stole Loveland's time in the sun. I guess you open when you open, but seems like the friendly rivalry got a little chippy.

Hey, I'm the guy that asked if I'd be screwed having planned my vacation there with a 4-day lift pass from Oct 22-27th, I have to say, although I'm sad I missed it by a few days, holy crap is Denver and the a-basin area freaking beautiful, I still had the time of my life making snowmen on the side of mountain roads :) cannot wait to come back asap for some shredding!! Thanks again for all the hard work guys!
