Marty Gotantas

The Basin lost a good friend yesterday. Former Ski School Director, Marty Gotantas, passed away after losing a tough, summer battle with cancer. His many, many friends will miss him dearly. The attached images are vintage Bob Winsett photos of Marty from a film shoot at A-Basin a "FEW" years back. The skis and attire stir some memories. Rest in peace Marty.

The disease touches so many. Perhaps Opening Day should be dedicated to Mr Gotantas, along with that, all that have fought cancer, and those, that are still fighting. Please contact me if I may volunteer.

There has to be a slice of the Basin of Keystone that can be named for Marty. I could never thank him enough for his calm friendship and solid guidance. I valued his leadership style, his friendship and sound advice. He gave me the loosest of leashes as a "boss" and could get more done with fewer words than anyone I ever knew. It's worth mentioning too, because it is often overlooked but in this case is no minor detail, he was a profoundly wicked good skier and teacher.

Marty was the best roommate during my time in The county. We lost a great ski partner and friend that would always help out his friends.
I'm sorry I can't be at "The Basin" to celebrate his life.
Please Count Me In your Prayers For Jen's and Marty's Family's
