COVID-19

There has been one case of COVID-19 confirmed in Summit County.  Specific information can be found at Summit County Government.

We have been working closely with Summit County and the State of Colorado governments and are following their recommendations. There has been no specific risk identified at Arapahoe Basin. Our greatest concern is for the safety and well being of our guests and our employees. While the risk of contracting this disease is low, we strongly encourage everyone to educate themselves on COVID-19 and use preventive measures recommended by the Center For Disease Control (CDC). Information can be found at CDC Coronavirus Information.

Arapahoe Basin will continue to be open for normal ski area operations. We hope you will take the time to read and understand this illness. Thank you for being part of A-Basin.

Thank you for raising the issue as I'm sure it's on the minds of many. It's important we all take this seriously to protect vulnerable people. It's clear that this is much worse than the seasonal flu so minimizing it's deadliness will only get people killed. China literally locked down their society and Covid-19 still raced through it. Government will never go that far here so for the USA to remain safe we're going to have to take the responsibility on ourselves to not pass on the disease.

Around .0073% of the Chinese population has contracted Covid-19 this far. Around .0065% of the world population is struck by lightning per year...

*around .0065% of the world population is struck by lightning in their lifetime.

Something is off in pollyanna's math. Yearly about 2000 people are killed by lightning. So far over 3300 people have been killed by Covid-19. But heh, you probably stayed in a Holiday Inn last night so I trust your sources and your math. People walking around like they have no cares are the ones who will spread it to a nursing home or to my elderly parents. People who scoff at experts will be right about every new disease right up until the one where we need them to shut up and pay attention. Is this one it? Time will tell but wishing won't make it go away.

Knowing that one of Abasins own was famously struck by lightning while climbing, if there’s a chance...

Lightning isn’t contagious

Chinese Population: 1,394,015,977 (2020 estimate)
Coronavirus Cases in China: 80,651
World Population: ~7.7billion
Odds of lightning strike in lifetime: 1:15,300

It’s pretty basic math with easy to find resources. Just sayin. Wash your hands, cover your mouth, stay home when you are sick, don’t be a jerk. Sounds sort of like kindergarten.

While COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate than seasonal flu, it is less infectious. At this point the confirmed number of cases of the disease is under 80,000 world wide (likely much higher), with deaths under 2,500 as if March 6th. The seasonal flu (2019-2020) Alone has killed over 16,000 in the U.S.A. Over 80% of those infected show no or mild symptoms. COVID-19, like the flu, is only a concern for the elderly, particularly those with weakened immune systems, individuals with other pre disposed medical conditions, and new borns, just like the normal flu. Everybody needs to stop freaking out. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, limit contact with those who may appear to be sick, stop buying face masks (you need a special kind not normally available to your average consumer, and need a fit test by a medical practitioner, and if you have facial hair you need a portable respirator known as a PAPR) and stop clearing out grocery stores of food, preventing those who actually need groceries from getting them. Don't listen to mainstream news on the issue as they are notoriously bad at explaining medical issues. Listen to the CDC. They are the experts. Not Linda from the morning talk show.

Importantly, ride on and enjoy the rest of the season.

Sincerely, a medical professional.
